Business Operations // Bachelor's Degree in Finance

Unlike most of your coworkers, you don’t have much of a background working with software. As you entered an unfamiliar industry, what was that transition like? Were there any surprises along the way?

It was scary. I started off doing sales and felt overwhelmed. I have sales experience, but not in anything close to our industry. So when Colin and I met with our mentor last year, we decided to try something different by switching our roles. I now manage Finance & Operations and Colin manages Sales & Marketing. In the moment it felt like a light switch being turned on. I’ve always been good at helping create processes that allow people to do their jobs more easily and I really enjoy the interaction that it requires. That’s the beauty of working at Krumware-- everyone is able to pivot and adjust their roles based on the direction they’re growing.

How would you describe your life outside of work? I know you’re involved with a couple of recreational sports leagues.

Hahaha, bowling on Tuesdays, Kickball on Thursdays, and Soccer on Sundays! So yes, a lot of my free time is taken up by sports. I also love to travel. Obviously that’s been difficult lately but I’m really ready to do some more international travel. I’ve been to Peru, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland. But there are so many other places that I want to go: Thailand, Spain, Italy, and Tanzania are high up on that list.

Since being an animal lover is practically a job requirement at Krumware, we would be remiss if we didn’t ask about your animals. What can you tell us?

I have two big dogs.  Thor is a husky/malamute mix. He’s 6 years old and I affectionately refer to him as a big galoot. He’s 80 pounds and just a big goofball. He’s my dude. Star is a 9-year-old, 80 pound Weimaraner. Her owner passed away and she’s been with me since. She had a large tumor removed when I first got her and she was very timid at first, but now she follows me around everywhere.

To wrap things up, tell us what the biggest lesson you’ve learned since working at Krumware the last few years?

Of course! The biggest thing that I’ve learned from my experience is that Operations isn’t necessarily about getting things done perfectly the first time. It’s about trying new ways of doing things, evaluating what works and what doesn’t work, and adjusting accordingly. Having Colin as my boss is awesome because we share a lot of the same philosophies. This allows me a lot of freedom because Colin trusts that I have the best interests in mind for our employees and for the company.
